In 2016, there are 5 eclipse consist of 3 Penumbral Lunar Eclipse and 2 Solar Eclipse which is total eclipse and annular eclipse. The first one in eclipse season will be Total Solar Eclipse on 9 March 2016.
March 9 Total Solar Eclipse will be visible from West Sumatera, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, West Borneo, Central Borneo, East Borneo, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku and from locations in the Pacific ocean. Even though the totality path is only 155 km wide but Indonesia is very lucky as the only land to watch the totality. Well there is another small atoll in Pacific Ocean which you can have longer totality instead of Indonesia but observing from this place is not an easy task. So Indonesia is preferable as the observing site in 2016. The totality will be visible from North and South Pagai island, Lubuk Linggau. Palembang, Toboali, Koba, Manggar, Tanjung Pandan, Palangkaraya, Balikpapan, Sampit, Palu, Poso, Ternate, Tidore, Sofifi, Jailolo, Kao, Maba.
Outside the totality path, the partial solar eclipse will be visible from Indonesia as well as Russian Federation, South East Asia, South Asia, East Asia, Northern and Eastern Australia, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Pacific Ocean and some area of US.
Here in the map below, people inside the red line will enjoy the moment when the moon totally block the sun. The eclipse will begin at 23:20 UTC, on March 8 with the longest duration for 4 mins 09 secs will be visible from Pacific ocean. People outside the red line will enjoy the partial eclipse.
